Kenya Advances Local Vaccine Manufacturing and HPTs Agenda Under BETA
Nairobi Kenya - On , Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr Ouma Oluga, held a consultative meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), Dr Waqo Ejersa, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Biovax Institute (KBI), Dr Wesley Ronoh. The engagement focused on reviewing progress in local vaccine manufacturing and advancing the broader health products and technologies (HPTs) agenda.
The meeting highlighted the central role of HPTs as a key pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), particularly in securing reliable supply chains and improving access to quality health commodities. Discussions also emphasised KEMSA’s critical role in distribution and expanding access to locally produced vaccines, a priority area for strengthening national health security.
Dr Oluga reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to coordinated inter-agency partnerships that boost Kenya’s pharmaceutical capacity and promote sustainable, locally driven solutions. He stressed the need for continued collaboration to accelerate vaccine production and ensure long-term, equitable access to essential medical products for all Kenyans.
