Kenya Aligns with Africa CDC Continental Immunisation Strategy at World Health Summit Nairobi
Nairobi, Kenya - 28 April 2026 - On the sidelines of the ongoing 2026 World Health Summit Regional Meeting in Nairobi, Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale joined continental leaders for the launch of the Africa CDC Continental Immunisation Strategy (CIS), alongside the release of a policy brief assessing the state of immunisation across Africa.
The high-level engagement convened governments, development partners, and technical agencies from across the continent, reinforcing a shared commitment to strengthen immunisation systems and accelerate progress in protecting vulnerable populations.
The Continental Immunisation Strategy highlights both Africa’s progress and the persistent gaps that continue to leave many children unreached. It sets out a clear pathway anchored on stronger national leadership, sustainable financing, equitable access to vaccines, and more resilient delivery systems. Priority actions include reaching zero-dose children, strengthening routine immunisation, and leveraging digital tools and surveillance systems to enhance accountability and preparedness.
In his remarks, Hon. Duale affirmed Kenya’s alignment with these priorities, citing ongoing health sector reforms focused on expanding sustainable financing, integrating immunisation into primary health care, and bringing services closer to communities.
He further underscored the need for a strong, Africa-led accountability framework under the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, supported by key partners including UNICEF, World Health Organization, and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
The launch signals renewed momentum towards faster, more equitable, and sustainable immunisation efforts across the continent. With a clear focus on 2030 targets, Africa is strengthening coordination and delivery, with Kenya positioning itself to play a leading role in ensuring every child is protected.
