Kenya Boosts Climate-Resilient Healthcare with Pioneering Training for Experts

Naivasha, -20, 2024 The   Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), successfully conducted a pivotal  Training of Trainers (ToT) on Climate Change and Health. The event brought together healthcare professionals from various policymakers,  public environmental health specialists and scientists from across the country.

Speaking during the closing of the workshop, the Ag Director, Public Health and Sanitation Dr. Grace Ikahu Muchangi noted the training aimed to build a critical mass of experts who can cascade knowledge on the relationship between climate change and health, as outlined in Kenya's Climate Change and Health Strategy 2024-2029.

"The primary focus of the training was to equip Trainer of Trainers (TOTs) with the skills to educate various stakeholders on assessing climate risks, using WHO Vulnerability and Adaptation tools, and developing the Health National Adaptation Plan." Said Dr. Ikahu.

Participants also explored environmentally sustainable healthcare tools tailored for Kenya’s needs, with an emphasis on fostering collaboration in the development of greening health care guidelines.

Through this initiative, Kenya continues to strengthen its climate-resilient health system, ensuring that its healthcare professionals are prepared to tackle the increasing health challenges posed by climate change.
