Kenya committed to elimination of mother to child transmission of  HIV, Syphilis and HepatitisB

New York , 2024 Speaking at a high-level side event at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Principal Secretary, State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, reaffirmed Kenya's commitment to eliminating mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis B (HBV). She emphasized that safeguarding the lives of children remains a top priority, and noted that the country’s efforts align with the Global Health Sector Strategy on Viral Hepatitis (2016-2021), which aims to significantly reduce HBV infections and related mortality by 2030.

"Kenya is proud to co-host this important meeting alongside UNAIDS as we chart the course to sustain the HIV response to 2030 and beyond," she remarked. "We are committed to working with global partners to ensure that no child is born with HIV or any preventable infection like Hepatitis B, and our approach will continue to emphasize leadership, collaboration, and sustained investment in public health systems."

The Principal Secretary concluded by calling on multilateral partners to strengthen collective efforts, recognizing that only through global cooperation can the ambitious goals of elimination be achieved.
