Kenya Enhances Healthcare Partnerships with Netherlands Through Trade Mission

Nairobi, Kenya - 20th October 2024 - Principal Secretary in the State Department of Medical Services, Mr. Harry Kimtai, reaffirmed Kenya's commitment to improving healthcare access as a Netherlands trade mission focused on life sciences and health commenced. This initiative addresses the growing demand for healthcare services driven by non-communicable diseases (NCDs), road traffic injuries, and communicable diseases.

To support Universal Health Coverage (UHC), Kimtai highlighted that the Ministry of Health has enacted key legislation, including the Social Health Insurance Act and the Digital Health Act, providing a framework for sustainable healthcare financing. He encouraged Kenyans to register for benefits through *147# or the SHA website, as the newly established Social Health Authority will facilitate public health funding.

The trade mission serves as a crucial platform for collaboration between government officials and the private sector, aiming to improve health outcomes for Kenyans. 

The event was attended by Vice Minister for Foreign Economic Relations, Ms. Yvette Van Eechoud, and His Excellency Deputy Ambassador, Joris Van Bommel.
