Kenya Explores EMT Training Partnership with Inha University to Boost Emergency Care and UHC

Nairobi,  June23, 2025 Human Resources for Health remains a critical pillar in the realization of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), particularly in strengthening primary healthcare and community health services. In recognition of this, the Ministry of Health, through the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), is exploring a partnership with Inha University Hospital aimed at advancing the training of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).

The proposed collaboration will focus on curriculum development, technology transfer in emergency care, equipping of emergency medical training laboratories, and building the capacity of EMTs to effectively serve communities and strengthen emergency response systems across the country.

During an engagement with representatives from Inha University Hospital and Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica), Principal Secretary State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni underscored the importance of strategic partnerships in strengthening the health workforce.

She noted that KMTC plays a central role in training frontline and primary care health cadres, and this initiative is a timely intervention that supports Kenya’s efforts to meet national health needs while enhancing regional and international labour mobility through high-quality, competency-based training.
