Kenya Hosts Regional Forum to Advance Nutrition and Food Safety Policies

Nairobi , 2025 The Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni,  joined other stakeholders during the opening of the Regional Policy Engagement Workshop on Policy Analysis for Sustainable and Healthy Foods in African Retail Markets (PASHFARM) in Nairobi.

The summit conducted under the theme, Retail Market Policies for Improved Nutrition and Health, brings together policymakers, researchers, and development partners to explore how retail food markets can deliver safer, more nutritious, and affordable foods for all.

Speaking at the event, the PS highlighted the importance of transforming food systems to improve health and nutrition.

“Our aim is to transform food systems so they deliver safer, more nutritious, and affordable foods for all, especially vulnerable populations.”

She added that the Ministry of Health, through the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, continues to implement policies and frameworks that promote food safety, improve diet quality, and strengthen nutrition-sensitive interventions within the Universal Health Coverage agenda.

The workshop is led by the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) under the PASHFARM initiative, which generates evidence to guide policies that make nutritious foods safer, more accessible affordable, and that support small and medium food enterprises across the region.
