Kenya Showcases Progress in Radiation Safety as Africa Meets in Nairobi
Nairobi , 2026 Kenya has strengthened its radiation safety and nuclear regulatory framework through the establishment of the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority (KNRA), enhanced inspection and enforcement systems, expanded radiation monitoring, and investment in training radiation safety professionals.
The country has also been designated as one of the regional centres for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Postgraduate Education Course in Radiation Protection.
Speaking during the Regional Meeting on Radiation Safety Infrastructure in Africa in Nairobi, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni Muriuki said Kenya remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of radiation protection as the use of nuclear and radiation technologies expands across healthcare, agriculture, industry, research, and environmental management.
The meeting hosted by the IAEA brings together Ministers, Permanent/Principal Secretaries , regulators, and technical experts from African countries to share experiences and develop action plans aimed at strengthening radiation safety infrastructure across the continent.
