Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral And Research Hospital Launches CyberKnife Centre To Advance Cancer Treatment In East Africa

Nairobi, Kenya April 24, 2023

The CyberKnife Centre at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) was today  officially opened by His Excellency President William Ruto.
This momentous project is the second of its kind in Africa and promises to revolutionize cancer treatment in Kenya and the wider East African region with its painless, minimally invasive approach and low risks.
The event was also attended by several distinguished individuals from the healthcare sector, including Cabinet Secretary for Health Nakhumicha S. Wafula, PS Medical Services Eng. Peter Tum, PS Public Health and Professional Standards Dr. Josephine Mburu, as well as top officials from Kenyatta University and KUTRRH. This milestone project is aligned with the United Nations' sustainable development goal of reducing cancer-related deaths.
“The deliberate scaling up of investment in comprehensive medical care and enhanced cancer control programs will help save lives, advance the government's Universal Healthcare Coverage agenda, and bring us closer to meeting the United Nations' sustainable development target of reducing cancer-related deaths by a third in 15 years,” said  His Excellency the President.
The CyberKnife technology is an advanced form of radiation therapy that uses high-energy X-rays to destroy cancer cells with pinpoint accuracy. It is a painless and minimally invasive procedure that offers low risks to patients.
The opening of the CyberKnife Centre is an excellent step towards achieving this goal and improving access to cancer treatment in the region
