Meeting with NGAOs Sets Stage for Social Health Authority Launch and Universal Health Coverage
Nairobi, Kenya - September 25, 2024 - Cabinet Secretary for Health Dr. Deborah M. Barasa and her counterpart, Cabinet Secretary for Interior Prof. Kithure Kindiki, convened a consultative meeting with National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) to discuss the rollout of the Social Health Authority in preparation for the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) launch on October 1, 2024.
Dr. Barasa emphasized the importance of community engagement to ensure the public understands the benefits of the Social Health Authority. She urged stakeholders to assist in registering 60% of households by the launch date, highlighting that UHC is a key priority of the Kenya Kwanza government, supported by recent legislation aimed at improving healthcare access and financing.
“I encourage each of you to become ambassadors for the Social Health Authority and UHC," Dr. Barasa stated. "Together, we can ensure that all Kenyans have access to comprehensive health services without financial hardship."
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Dr. Raymond Omollo, Principal Secretary for Medical Services Mr. Harry Kimtai, Chairperson of the President's Council of Economic Advisors Dr. David Ndii, Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, Regional Commissioners, Deputy County Commissioners, and other senior government officials.
