Ministry of Health Rolls Out Epuka Uchafu Program in Kericho to Boost Household Hygiene
Kericho ,2026 The Ministry of Health, through the State Department of Public Health and Professional Standards, has officially activated the Epuka Uchafu, Afya Nyumbani initiative in Kericho County, making it the 13th county in the country to roll out the program.
The activation exercise was led by Dr. Grace Ikahu, who heads the program at the Ministry.
Dr. Ikahu underscored the importance of preventive health practices at the household level, noting that maintaining clean and safe home environments plays a critical role in reducing preventable diseases.
The initiative, which was first launched in West Pokot County in 2024 by Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni, focuses on promoting proper hygiene, safe water handling, effective waste management, and improved sanitation practices as part of Kenya’s broader primary healthcare strengthening efforts.
