National Validation of Social Health Insurance Tariffs Marks Key Step Towards UHC

๐๐š๐ข๐ซ๐จ๐›๐ข, ๐Š๐ž๐ง๐ฒ๐š - ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ๐ญ๐ก ๐€๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’ย The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Social Health Authority, held the National Validation Exercise of the Social Health Insurance Act Tariffs at the KICC, Nairobi, onย , 2024. During the event, Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Deborah M. Barasa, accompanied by Principal Secretaries Ms Mary Muthoni (Public Health and Professional Standards) and Mr Harry Kimtai (Medical Services) emphasized the importance of validating the tariffs to ensure greater healthcare accessibility and affordability for all Kenyans.ย 

She highlighted that publishing these tariffs is a historic move toward transparency and accountability in healthcare financing. Dr. Barasa encouraged all Kenyans to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to access comprehensive benefits startingย .ย 

The SHI Act includes three key funds aimed at increasing investment in preventive and promotive health, expanding coverage to vulnerable groups, and ensuring financial protection against medical costs.ย 

The CS also announced increased tariffs for maternal health services and coverage for emergency treatments, underscoring the governmentโ€™s commitment to an equitable healthcare system.ย 

Dr. Barasa concluded by expressing gratitude to all stakeholders for their dedication to enhancing Kenya's healthcare system.
