Community Health Promoters championing SHA Registration, PS Muthoni
Kiambu , 2024 In an effort to ensure every Kenyan has access to quality and affordable healthcare services, the Ministry of Health has rolled out community registration for the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF). The initiative, spearheaded by Community Health Promoters (CHPs), aims to raise awareness and facilitate registrations at the grassroots level.
Principal Secretary for the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, visited Gachororo in Kiambu County to oversee the progress of this critical exercise. During her visit, she commended the CHPs for their dedication and emphasized the importance of their role in achieving universal health coverage.
“Our Community Health Promoters are at the heart of this transformative journey,” said Mary Muthoni. “Their work ensures that no one is left behind in accessing the Social Health Insurance Fund. We will continue to empower them with the tools and training they need to succeed as we refine the system based on lessons from the ongoing registration.”
The PS reiterated the Government's commitment to periodically enhance the capacity of CHPs through updated training on the SHIF registration module, ensuring the initiative adapts to emerging needs and challenges.
