The Government of Egypt has committed to supporting Kenya in accelerating the implementation of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by leveraging lessons from Egypt’s healthcare system, delivery models, and robust health products manufacturing sector.
Speaking during a side meeting at the 2nd Vaccine and Health Products Manufacturing Forum for African Union Member States in Cairo, Dr. Hisham Stait, Chairman of the Egyptian Authority for United Procurement, Medical Supply, and the Management of Medical Technology, affirmed Egypt’s willingness to collaborate with Kenya on key health initiatives.
The meeting was attended by Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Harry Kimtai, who led the Kenyan delegation. The areas of cooperation include the establishment of a government-to-government consortium of investors to manufacture essential medicines, cancer care and blood products, diagnostics, and medical supplies.
Additionally, both countries will work on developing protocols for cancer care delivery through telemedicine and strengthening capacity development through training and industry placement for technical teams in biomanufacturing.
Further collaboration will involve academic and research institutions to advance research and development, pre-clinical and clinical trials, and health product innovation.
To fast-track implementation, a technical team comprising officials from both Ministries of Health will be formed to oversee the rollout of these activities.
