Ministry of Health Intensifies Fight Against Drug and Substance Abuse
Mombasa, 11-13 February, 2025 The Ministry of Health has launched a nationwide sensitization campaign to combat drug and substance abuse, prioritizing regions with the highest prevalence. The initiative, covering all 47 counties in 10 clusters, aims to equip communities with knowledge and resources to prevent addiction and offer support.
Speaking in Mombasa, where stakeholders from six coastal counties convened, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, emphasized the need for collective action.
“The fight against drug and substance abuse is a national priority. We must empower communities, strengthen enforcement, and provide support systems to break the cycle of addiction,” she stated.
With 4.7 million Kenyans using substances, including high rates of alcohol and tobacco dependency, the campaign seeks to foster a drug-free society through awareness, capacity-building, and collaboration with stakeholders.
