Strengthening Preventive Healthcare for a Healthier Kenya
Nairobi , 2025 , the State Department for Public Health & Professional Standards presented its position on the 2025 Budget Policy Statement (BPS) before the Departmental Committee on Health, emphasizing the critical need for more investment to preventive healthcare.
With the 2025 BPS theme—"Consolidating Gains Under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda for Inclusive Green Growth"—the State Department highlighted the importance of increasing budgetary allocations for preventive and promotive health interventions.
To achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and ensure sustainable healthcare financing, the government is prioritizing community-led prevention efforts, disease surveillance, health promotion, food safety, waste disposal systems, and national public health labs. Studies show that every $1 invested in prevention saves $9 in treatment costs, making it the most cost-effective approach.
The call to action is clear—investing in prevention means a healthier, more productive Kenya
