At a ministerial roundtable during the 87th session of the World Health Assembly(WHA), hosted by WHO in collaboration with the Susan Thomson Buffet Foundation, dubbed "Data and Sustainable Financing: Twin Foundations to Accelerate Universal Health Coverage and the SDGs." Health Cabinet Secretary Hon Aden Duale highlighted the paramount importance of safeguarding health data within national boundaries, emphasizing that African nations should devise indigenous solutions tailored to their specific needs.
Hon. Duale elaborated the critical role of robust data management and sustainable financial strategies as fundamental pillars for achieving universal health coverage and advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Understanding the sensitive nature of health data, the CS urged his African counterparts to prioritise the development of secure, local data handling systems, pointing out the inherent risks of data storage in foreign nations. He also called for the establishment of regional frameworks that not only secure health information but also harness it to improve healthcare delivery and outcomes across the continent.
The CS was joined in the plenary by Health Director General Dr. Patrick Amoth.
