The Ministry of Health is leveraging Sustainable Development Goal 17 focused on partnerships to drive comprehensive health systems reforms aimed at strengthening Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda., Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale hosted a high-level delegation from Pfizer, led by Global Emerging Markets President Mr. Nick Lagunowich, at Afya House, Nairobi. The meeting focused on advancing healthcare delivery systems through strategic partnerships and innovation.
Discussions centered on improving drug availability and ongoing reforms at the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA), with the CS highlighting the Ministry’s goal of raising order fulfillment rates from 47% to 100%. He further underscored the significance of the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry and Pfizer, which seeks to enhance access to medicines and vaccines by tapping into Pfizer’s innovation and technology to strengthen primary healthcare systems.
The two parties also explored opportunities for local pharmaceutical production as a pathway to increased self-reliance and resilient health supply chains.
This engagement comes ahead of the official launch of the Ministry of Health–Pfizer Accord partnership—a transformative initiative to increase access to affordable, high-quality medicines and vaccines within Kenya’s public health system.
CS Duale commended Pfizer’s continued commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery in Kenya, stating:
