PS Mary Muthoni Calls for Responsible Celebrations to Protect Health During Festive Season

Nairobi , 2025 As the festive season approaches, the Ministry of Health has reiterated the importance of safeguarding life and health as Kenyans celebrate  and usher in the New Year.

Speaking at the Omogusii O’Nairobi Kisii End-Year  Sabbath, Principal Secretary State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni highlighted key public health risks commonly associated with the festive period, including increased road traffic crashes, alcohol-related injuries, food poisoning, preventable infectious diseases, domestic violence, and disruptions in care for people living with chronic illnesses.

She urged Kenyans to celebrate responsibly by avoiding drunk driving, consuming alcohol in moderation, maintaining high standards of hygiene during social gatherings, observing food and water safety, and making informed sexual and reproductive health choices.
