CS Duale Unveils New CT Scan Centre in Bungoma to Expand Access to Advanced Diagonistics

Bungoma, Kenya -  - Cabinet Secretary for Health, Hon. Aden Duale, has presided over the unveiling of a new Annex Radiology Unit and CT Scan Centre during an official visit to Bungoma County, marking a significant step in expanding access to specialised diagnostic services at the regional level.

The facility, equipped with a 128-slice CT scanner (2025 model) under the National Equipment Service Programme (NESP), is already enhancing patient care, having handled dozens of cases from across the region while reducing waiting times for critical imaging services.

During the tour, the CS inspected Bungoma County Referral Hospital, reviewing services at the Mother and Child Health Centre and the Cancer and Palliative Care Unit, both of which are strengthening access to timely maternal care, early detection, and comprehensive patient support.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to scaling up cancer care under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda, with plans underway to operationalise regional oncology centres at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital and in Kisii County to ease pressure on national referral facilities and bring specialised services closer to communities.

The visit was hosted by Bungoma County Governor H.E. Kenneth Lusaka. The CS was accompanied by Social Health Authority CEO Dr Mercy Mwangangi, Digital Health Agency CEO Eng. Anthony Lenayara, and senior officials from the Ministry and Bungoma County Government.
