PS Muthoni highlights Kenya's food fortification efforts at the 79th World Health Assembly
Geneva ,2026 Kenya has strengthened compliance in maize and wheat fortification through strong government leadership, multisectoral partnerships, investments in quality assurance systems, and sustained collaboration with industry as part of efforts to address malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies.
Speaking during the High-Level Panel and Launch of the Learning Exchange Platform on Large-Scale Food Fortification (LSFF) on the margins of the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, noted that Kenya continues to champion harmonized regional food fortification standards to improve access to safe and nutritious foods, while promoting regional and global collaboration and knowledge sharing to accelerate nutrition outcomes across Africa.
The discussions brought together health leaders and representatives from Kenya, Indonesia, Egypt, Mozambique, and Sri Lanka to share country experiences, lessons, and best practices in scaling up food fortification programmes as part of broader efforts to strengthen nutrition, food systems, and public health outcomes globally.
