PS Oluga Leads Review to Fast-Track Kisii Cancer Centre Project
Nairobi, Kenya - - The Ministry of Health has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to specialized cancer care following a progress review meeting on the proposed Kisii Cancer Centre chaired by Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga.
The meeting brought together project contractors, consultants and the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) to assess the project’s implementation status, review progress against the work plan and address challenges affecting timely delivery.
During the meeting, the Principal Secretary provided strategic guidance and facilitated the resolution of critical implementation bottlenecks that had slowed progress. The interventions are expected to accelerate project execution and ensure the facility is delivered within the agreed timelines.
Once completed, the Kisii Cancer Centre will significantly enhance access to comprehensive, quality and timely cancer diagnosis and treatment services for patients in Kisii County and the wider South Nyanza region. The facility will reduce referrals to national referral hospitals, decongest existing oncology centres and improve patient outcomes by bringing specialized cancer care closer to the communities it serves.
The proposed Cancer Centre is part of the Ministry of Health’s ongoing efforts to strengthen specialized healthcare infrastructure, improve equitable access to cancer services and enhance health outcomes for Kenyans through expanded access to quality oncology care.
