Strengthening Partnership for Universal Health Coverage
Nairobi, Kenya - - Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale held consultations with a delegation from Amref Health Africa led by Group Chief Executive Officer Dr. Githinji Gitahi, reaffirming the longstanding partnership in advancing Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage agenda.
Discussions focused on strengthening resilient health systems, expanding equitable access to quality healthcare, maternal and newborn health, primary healthcare, health workforce development and evidence-based interventions.
The engagement highlighted Amref’s support for 22 medical oxygen generation plants across 12 underserved counties, strengthening access to lifesaving oxygen and emergency care. The meeting also reviewed implementation of the Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere initiative, with Amref supporting six of the 26 Rapid Results Initiative counties to improve maternal and newborn health outcomes.
The two parties further discussed strengthening Community Health Promoters through training and capacity building, expanding facility-based research to inform policy, and developing the health workforce through Amref International University.
Present were Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Ms. Mary Muthoni, Director of Health Sector Coordination Dr. Ahmed Albush, Vice Chancellor of Amref International University Prof. Joachim Osur, alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Health and Amref Health Africa.
