Maseno University |

Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr. Ouma Oluga has called for stronger collaboration between the education and health sectors to support the Government’s health reform agenda and improve health outcomes.

Speaking at Maseno University during an engagement with union leaders, vice-chancellors, professors, institutional heads and university council members from the Lake and Rift Valley regions, Dr. Oluga outlined the health reforms being implemented by the Ministry of Health under the leadership of H.E. President Dr. William Samoei Ruto.

He called on institutions of learning to use research and innovation to help address health system challenges. He also urged them to mobilise parents, learners, teachers and staff to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) and maintain their premium contributions.

Dr. Oluga encouraged the education sector to support the Every Woman, Every Newborn, Everywhere (EWENE) campaigns aimed at reducing maternal and newborn mortality. He also called for training and skills development to align with emerging health sector needs and Government priorities.

He said stronger links between education, research and health would help harness professional expertise and community networks to advance Universal Health Coverage and improve access to quality healthcare.

Dr. Oluga was accompanied by Principal Secretaries CPA Carren Ageng’o (Children Services), Aurelia Rono (Parliamentary Services) and Cyrell Odede (Public Investments and Asset Management).
