International Nurses Day 2023

Nairobi May12,2023

Principal Secretary State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards Dr. Josephine Mburu has today led nurses from all over the country in celebrating International Nurses’ Day.
The PS noted the critical role nurses play in the health care system and praised them for their commitment to making Kenya a healthy nation.
“Think about this, a nurse is present in our lives right from conception, a nurse will be there when you take your first breath, a nurse will also be there when you take your last breath, indeed nurses need to be celebrated not just during The International Day of Nurses but always.” She said.
The PS revealed that the Government is banking on the Primary Health Systems to deliver Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and that the Ministry of Health will work closely with County Governments to ensure that nurses are empowered with requisite skills and tools to enable them work effectively.
Dr. Mburu also informed that the Ministry is working with the Ministries of Labour and Foreign Affairs to source for employment of Kenya nurses outside the country.
International Nurses’ Day is celebrated annually on 12 May in memory of the birth of the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale.
