President Ruto Inaugurates Kangema KMTC Campus

Muranga, Kenya - 14th February 2024 - Health CS Nakhumicha S. Wafula joined President William Ruto and Deputy President Hon Rigathi Gachagua in the official opening of the Kangema Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) campus in Murang'a County today.

ย Constructed by the NG-CDF at a cost of Sh100 million and occupying 11 acres of land donated by the Murang'a County government, the institution is set to welcome its first cohort of students in September this year.

ย Addressing students from neighbouring Murang'a KMTC, parents, and locals, the President pledged Kshs 65 million towards equipping the College to meet high standards before admitting new students.

ย Highlighting the government's commitment to providing top-notch healthcare professional training, the President emphasized that the completion and operation of the school would contribute significantly to achieving Universal Health Coverage, as well-trained personnel are valuable both locally and internationally.ย 

Additionally, President Ruto allocated Kshs 100 million towards expanding Kangema Subcounty Hospital, which will serve as a training ground for students enrolled in the new KMTC branch.

ย CS Nakhumicha reiterated her call for Kenyans to embrace the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), which aims to reform the healthcare sector in the country. She urged residents to participate in public consultations on SHIF regulations.

Governor Irungu Kang'ata's introduction of Kang'ata Care was commended by CS Nakhumicha, who emphasized the importance of SHIF cards for accessing quality and affordable healthcare services at national facilities like KNH and KUTTRH, particularly for conditions such as hypertension, cancer, and diabetes.

During an inspection of the facility, CS Nakhumicha urged locals to take advantage of the college, noting that the influx of students would positively impact the constituency's economy.

Also in attendance were Principal Secretary for State Department of Public Health and Professional Standards. Ms Mary Muthoni, Murang'a County Governor Irungu Kang'ata, Kiharu & Kangema MPs, nominated Senator Sabina Chege, KMTC CEO Kelly Oluoch, among others.
