President Ruto Launches Local Manufacturing Expo, Commits to Boost Local Production

Nairobi, Kenya - 13th October 2023 - His Excellency President William Ruto inaugurated the Local Manufacturing Expo today and pledged strong government support for local manufacturing, ensuring global competitiveness. 

Accompanied by Health CS Nakhumicha S. Wafula, Trade CS, Nairobi Governor, Ministry of Health PSs, and more, he announced an affirmative action to boost local products and prioritize locally manufactured HPTs in Kemsa's supply chain. His government will provide Kemsa with 2 billion KES for purchasing locally made products. 

CS Nakhumicha expressed gratitude to H.E. for attending the event, emphasizing that building capacity through local manufacturing cuts import times, costs, and intermediaries, increasing HPT availability and strengthening our ecosystem. 

The event, attended by PS for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni and Medical Services PS Harry Kimtai, brought together various the Ministry of Health departments, private sector players, local manufacturers, development partners, civil societies, and consumers to chart a path for revitalizing the health products manufacturing sector, positioning Kenya as the Hub of Africa, attracting new investors, and fortifying existing manufacturers
