Promoting local products for sustainability
Nairobi , 2025 Principal Secretary State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni held a strategic meeting with KEMRI Board Chair, Dr. Abdullahi Ali, to enhance the promotion and utilization of locally produced laboratory and sanitation products for self-sustainability.
Key discussions focused on increasing the use of KEMRI products including culture media and fast-tracking KEBS approval for test kits like Hepatitis B and Malaria, and scaling up antimicrobial soap production.
The strategy also includes deploying sanitizers in high-traffic areas, such as truck stops and training institutions, while integrating these products into mainstream commercial outlets, including supermarkets, to ensure broader access and long-term sustainability.
