PS Mary Muthoni, Amref Health Africa Review Progress on Primary Health Care, Climate & Disease Control Collaboration

Nairobi , 2025 The Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Ms. Mary Muthoni,  convened a high-level meeting with a team from AMREF Health Africa led by Kenya Country Director, Dr Meshack Ndirangu, to review the progress made in key areas of collaboration between the Ministry of Health and AMREF.

The discussions focused on strengthening Primary Health Care, particularly through the establishment and operationalisation of Primary Care Networks (PCNs), which are critical to advancing equitable access to quality services at the community level.

Other key areas of engagement included addressing the health impacts of climate change, enhancing malaria control efforts, and intensifying the fight against Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). The meeting also underscored the importance of effective public health communication and thought leadership in shaping community health behaviours and strengthening health systems resilience.

Progress on the Epuka Uchafu Initiative—an environmental health campaign aimed at promoting cleanliness and preventing disease—was also assessed, with renewed emphasis on community-led sanitation efforts.
