Brazzaville, DRC ,2026 Kenya’s leadership in advancing regional health security has received a major boost following the election of the Principal Secretary, State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, as Chairperson of the African Permanent and Principal Secretaries for Health.
The election, made during a high-level consultative meeting on cross-border collaboration for health security in Brazzaville,Congo, marks a significant milestone in strengthening unified continental action on public health.
Kenya stands to benefit from strengthened regional collaboration, improved coordination in disease surveillance and response, and greater access to shared expertise, innovations and best practices. The position also enhances Kenya’s influence in shaping continental health priorities, mobilizing partnerships, and advancing resilient systems that protect communities and support the Universal Health Coverage agenda.
