Tobacco Control Board explores strategies for strengthening tobacco and nicotine product control efforts across the country.

Nairobi , 2024 , the Tobacco Control Board held its Second Quarter meeting for the fiscal year 2024/2025 in Nairobi, focusing on strengthening tobacco and nicotine product control efforts across the country.

Key agenda items included enhancing market surveillance of tobacco and emerging nicotine products at Points of Entry (POEs). The board emphasized the need for a multi-agency approach  and partnerships in implementing tobacco control and tackling the increasing prevalence of online marketing

The board also proposed extensive sensitization programs for enforcement officers at both POEs and county levels. This initiative aims to involve key agencies such as NACADA, KEBS, Kenya Revenue Authority, and the Ministry of Health’s Community Health Unit.

To support tobacco cessation, the board plans to work with the Ministry of Health to establish cessation and rehabilitation centers across 10 regions. Additionally, it will launch public awareness campaigns on the health impacts of tobacco and nicotine products, targeting all regions across the country.

Through these measures, the board seeks to curb the growing challenges posed by tobacco and emerging nicotine products in Kenya.
