A delegation from the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) paid a courtesy call to Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Mr. Harry Kimtai, and the Head of the Directorate of Health Products and Technologies, Dr. Tom Menge, at Afya House.

The UNECA team, consisting of Ms. Jane Karonga, Kamogelo Mampane, and Dr. Edward Kamamia, outlined key areas for collaboration aimed at strengthening Africa’s pharmaceutical sector.

The discussions focused on promoting a Centralized Pooled Procurement Mechanism to enhance access to essential medicines, supporting local production of medicines to improve supply chain resilience, and strengthening regulatory functions for medicines across the continent.

The mission emphasized the need to leverage partnerships with key continental and global organizations, including Africa CDC, AfCFTA, AMA, AUC, AUDA-NEPAD, IGAD, WHO, and UNIDO, to drive these initiatives forward.

This engagement underscores the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing pharmaceutical systems, ensuring access to quality medicines, and fostering sustainable healthcare solutions for Kenya and the broader African region said the PS.
